Stretch Mark Removal

Stretch marks appear as indented bands of lines on your skin. These lines are a different color and texture than your normal skin, and they range from purple to bright pink to off white. When you touch stretch marks with your fingers, you might feel a slight ridge or indentation on your skin. Sometimes, stretch marks feel itchy or sore.

They do not pose as a medical concern although unsightly; there are many options that can help improve the appearance of scar-like stretch marks.

What Causes Stretch Marks?
Stretch marks are formed when the skin is pulled by rapid growth or stretching. Although the skin is usually fairly elastic, when it’s overstretched, the normal production of collagen (the major protein that makes up the connective tissue in your skin) and elastin is disrupted. As a result, scar-like stretch marks are formed. Leading cause of stretch marks include:

  • Pregnancy
  • Genetics
  • Rapid weight gain or loss
  • Hormonal changes especially during puberty
  • Corticosteroid creams, lotions, and medications
  • Medical conditions

How Are Stretch Marks Treated?
Stretch mark removal requires multiple sessions spaced 6-8 weeks apart. Depending on the severity of the severity, location and type of stretch marks, your provider will provide a treatment protocol for optimal results. With options such as lasers, microneedling and RF (Radiofrequency) you will see an improvement with each subsequent treatment.

Types Of Stretch Marks
Stretch marks can appear purple or pink in color known as striae rubra or a paler white known as striae alba as time progresses.

Stretch Mark Treatment
The first signs of stretch marks yield better results the sooner they are treated. It is not uncommon to use a combination of different treatments as stretch marks are often located in multiple layers of skin tissue.
