Restylane-old

  • What is Restylane?

Restylane, also known as hyaluronic acid, is a substance that aids in adding volume to the skin and giving shape to the eyes. It’s also used to add flexibility to the joints. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally present in the body.

  • How does it work?

Restylane, which is a crystal clear gel, is injected into the skin with a very small needle. As the substance is injected in very small amounts, it adds volume underneath wrinkles, lifting them up and smoothing the skin. It is also used to enhance lips and facial contours by shaping and adding volume.

  • What does Restylane treat?

Any person who has facial wrinkles and folds that are moderate to severe in nature can get Restylane injections. The substance is generally injected into the mid- to deep dermis areas of the skin. This injection will immediately smooth out wrinkles and folds and add lift and firmness to the skin. If the lips are being treated, the area will be more full and sensuous.

  • What results should I expect from Resylane injections?

Immediately after the treatment, you can expect slight redness, swelling, tenderness or an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The discomfort is temporary and generally disappears in a few days. After a lip treatment, the lips may become swollen and look somewhat uneven. This can persist for a few days (up to a week). If the discomfort continues, please contact your physician. During the first 48 hours after your treatment, do not massage or rub the treated area. If you have had a lip enhancement, avoid puckering your lips for the first two days after the treatment. Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. in a solarium or by sunbathing) or extreme cold.

  • How Long Does a Treatment Take?

The Restylane injections are extremely quick, generally taking approximately half an hour. The time may vary slightly depending on the area being treated. The treatment does not require a pre-test and can be administered immediately.

  • Are Restylane treatments safe?

Restylane injections are safe and have been performed by plastic surgeons and dermatologists since 1996. This substance is not animal based and is fully biocompatible, which means no allergy testing is needed. Temporary redness and swelling where the injection was given are generally the most reported side effects.

  • How soon are the results of Restylane injections noticeable?

Results can be seen immediately.

  • How long does the effects of Restylane treatments last?

Results may last anywhere between six months and one year, which is much longer than collagen filler treatments. The factors that determine how long you will have noticeable results include age, lifestyle and skin structure.
It’s possible that another treatment may be needed two to four weeks after the initial treatment in order to see desired results. If touch ups and follow up treatments are done, it adds to the duration of the results. In general, a new treatment is done within a year after having wrinkles and folds treated and within 6 months of having lips treated.

  • Are there side effects from Restylane?

It’s very uncommon for a person to have a reaction from the injection. Common side effects include redness, discoloration, swelling, pain, tenderness at the injection point and itching. These effects generally go away within a few days after the injection into the skin and within seven days after an injection into the lips.

Only 1 in 2000 people has reported localized reactions that seem to be of a hypersensitive nature. This includes swelling where the injection was given, tenderness, redness and, on rare occasions, skin formations that are similar to acne. These reactions, which have been reported from mild to moderate, first appear a few days after treatment or after two to four weeks and last approximately two weeks.

  • How often can I get Restylane treatments?

Due to the natural qualities of Restylane, injections can be administered as often as needed.
