Chemical Peels-old

Chemical peels are used to exfoliate the skin, allowing it to rejuvenate itself. A peel will stimulate the production of collagen, new skin and elastin that helps skin look and feel younger. Natural exfoliation takes time. Using a chemical peel hastens the exfoliation process and allows the skin to refresh itself faster.

In addition to removing the dead skin cells, chemical peels also tighten and firm the skin. Chemical peels remove the upper most layer of skin, so it may seem slightly red and irritated once the procedure is over, but that will fade leaving a fresh and healthy layer of new skin.

Mandelic Acids Peels

Mandelic acid peels are ideal when trying to eliminate dark spots and inflammation associated with acne. Mandelic acids use alpha hydroxy acids to connect with dead skin cells and help to strip them away, leaving fresh new skin underneath. Derived from bitter almonds, mandelic acids are much larger than other forms of alpha hydroxy acids. Because of their size, they are not able to permeate the skin. Instead, they work on the surface by clearing away dead skin cells that can make the skin look older.

Glycolic Acid Peels

Glycolic acid is an acid that comes from sugar cane. When used as a chemical peel, its benefits focus on the removal of wrinkles and getting rid of acne. Glycolic acid breaks down the glue-like substance that keeps old skin cells attached to the face. By stripping those away, newer, fresher skin is exposed.

Pyruvic Acid Peels

Pyruvic acid comes from apples and is derived from a “keto” group instead of a hydroxil group. When mixed with water, it turns into a form of lactic acid that intensifies the growth of new skin cells and collagen. Because of its chemical makeup, it helps to keep the skin moist and adds a protective layer that prevents the skin from drying out.

Salicylic Acid Peels

The salicylic acid used in today’s chemical peels is synthesized using many components from natural sources. Originally, it was derived from the bark of the willow tree, but today it is mostly manufactured. As a chemical compound, dermatologists have used it to reduce the effects of wrinkles, acne and other types of blemishes. It is used topically to remove dead and dying cells that can make the skin look dry and unhealthy.

Jessner Peels

Jessner peels penetrate more deeply than some of the other types of peels. While most other forms of chemical peels treat the surface of the skin, Jessner peels go much deeper, healing and rejuvenating skin that is several layers deep. Not only does it address the wear and tear that other chemical peels do, it also goes deep into the skin correcting wrinkles and acne that can often lead to scarring. Because Jessner peels work so much deeper than other peels, they do not work for everyone. For example, individuals who have eczema or psoriasis should avoid this type of peel simply because of the irritation that it causes.

TCA Peels

TCA peels are commonly used to lighten brown spots, reduce the appearance of fine lines, treat acne, and improve the elasticity and resiliency of leathery or dry skin. Closely related to vinegar, trichloracetic acid has been used for over two decades to effectively remove dead cells and exfoliate skin. This type of peel is non-toxic and works over a period of days. Skin dries up slowly and peels away over a period of approximately seven days. It is extremely effective for treating melasma and different types of acne.

Hand and Neck Peels

Hand and neck peels are used to tighten and tone the skin of the hands and neck. Chemical peels used on the hands and neck work exactly the same way as peels used on the face.
